By appointment only, Destination Audio is located on Sydney’s lower North Shore (7 km from the CBD) and offers a range of high-end audio equipment. The brands are chosen to provide a level of performance that is well above what you will find in conventional retail stores.
The showroom
The Destination Audio showroom showcases an exceptional sound system that demonstrates what can be achieved with well-chosen products. The system comprises an Ypsilon CD transport, DAC and Pre and Power Amplification with the exceptional Stenheim Ultime 2 loudspeakers.
My first piece of Ypsilon equipment was acquired in 2014 and I was so impressed with the sense of ease and musicality it provided that I have progressively made this brand the backbone of my system. Ypsilon is unique in using transformers as coupling devices in their amplification circuits. It is an approach that delivers high performance equipment that is both musical and emotionally engaging.
The Stenheim Ultime 2 speakers are the most recent addition to my reference system. I was drawn to the Stenheim Ultime 2 loudspeakers because of their ability to bring out the most subtle aspects of the music while simultaneously capturing the entirety of the performance: you get the nuances of the performance without losing that sense of the whole. The Ultime 2, like other speakers in the Stenheim range, also deliver incredible dynamics in part due to their use of paper cones and high sensitivity (95dB).
The room itself provides a calm listening space in which to enjoy music without unwanted intrusions. This has been achieved through treatment and materials that reduce sound entering and leaving the room.
